BEFORE AND AFTER

Discovery Motivational Training- The Life Education for youth
By Mr Ken Cheong, the former principal of Sri Murni

The participants were full of excitement and vigour!
They were anticipating very relaxing and fun-filled activities for their summer camp! Unknowingly, a lot of surprises awaiting them at the training camp.

Immediately after the students got down from their bus, they were ushered to a hall and hence the training began! Without wasting any precious time, the participants went through the 3 days 2 nights of intensive training from early morning till the wee hours of the next morning!

Each and every participant participated wholeheartedly in all the team building activities such as rafting, various outdoor games including paintball , talent and musical shows and at the end of the training programme-self reflection !!

These team-building activities gave students a chance to learn personal information about each other. They are then able to establish a certain amount of rapport and are more tolerant of each other. This creates a situation in which people are willing to work through all circumstances in a more amicable way. However, sad to say that when certain activity involving more strenuous physical labor, for example in the rafting activity along the Pahang River, the students had temporarily lost their sense of comradeship or espirit de corp !! All the six paddlers were just simply rowing on their own without any synchronization or what-so-ever !! Time, energy and efforts were wasted !!

All in all, from my observation, communication is a positive result of a successful team-building programme. Students who learn to efficiently complete those shared tasks in a controlled setting are able to communicate better, with accuracy and competency. This extends not only to verbal communication but also to recognizing one another's needs and limitations, strengths and weaknesses.
